Sarathi Roy

Dr. Sarathi Roy has been in the commodities business since 1997 in a variety of roles. He was hired as a Quantitative analyst and Chief Economist at AIG/Sempra Energy Trading in October 1997, charged with developing mathematical models and analytics for the trading and structuring groups. In 1999, he was sent to London to help set up the European gas and power business for Sempra. 2001 saw him join the derivatives sales and trading team back in the US where he developed an exclusive list of clients that included hedge funds, producers, refiners and airlines. In 2003, in addition to the above, he developed a proprietary trading business around client flow rising to the rank of Managing Director, Derivatives trading till his departure from RBS Sempra in 2009 to Noble Group. At Noble, where he was till 2013, he was known to be a successful relative value trader, implementing various quantamental strategies. In 2013, in addition to trading his own book, he was appointed as a Managing Committee Member at BTG Pactual Commodities (currently ECTP Commodities) and Head of US Energy, managing a team of 45 people, a business he built from scratch. In 2017, he joined Freepoint Commodities as a Managing Director in the global oil business. Elevated to Senior Managing Director in 2020, he took on the responsibility of overseeing the Global Petroleum business in 2021 in addition to trading his own book. Dr Roy has his undergraduate and Masters degree in Commerce from the University of Delhi and a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Texas at Dallas.
